This month - Vertical Expression with caller Adam Hughes. Phoenix Morris dance at the interval.
One of the UK's most high-energy contra dance bands, Vertical Expression are well-known for delighting dancers at festivals and dance series across the UK, Europe and beyond! Their driving double bass and guitar foundation, layered with rhythmic fiddle and melodeon tunes and foot percussion, makes them one of the most danceable bands around. They excel at picking just the right tune for the dance and maintaining the connection between dancers and music. verticalexpressioncontra.co.uk
Adam Hughes has been calling for English, Scottish and American dances for more years than he is likely to admit, with clarity, variety, enthusiasm and a hint of mischief. A favourite at local ceilidhs and a well-known face at events across the country, he promises a high-adrenaline evening.
It's a barn dance - or is it a ceilidh? And what's that? A ceilidh (say kayley) is your chance to dance English traditional country dances with others. The caller describes all the moves (very simple) and the dancers walk through the whole dance, then the band starts - and a great time is had by all ! Dance as vigorously or as sedately as you wish - and don't worry if you get it wrong. Most dances are for couples, but singles and groups are welcome. There's a break about 9.15 with a dance display - generally Morris or similar - to entertain you, and a Raffle . See our website at www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk
